I Have Nothing To Wear!

I have nothing to wear! This I am sure is a common thought among most woman! I know I think this almost every other day!

It was February 15, 2014 I was sitting in my room in what seemed to be a pill of homework.  Feeling overwhelmed, my brother came into my room.  I panicked! I had a urge to jump up and throw my hands up thinking that by some miracle it would hide the tornado that went through my room the day before. The tornado was me! I had a fight with my closet about what to wear.
Being completely embarrassed of my disaster of a room I decided it was time to clean up.  After he left I began with the dirty clothes and then folding clean clothes. this task lasted to long if you ask me but i had finally finished.  Then it hit me. As I stood in the door way hoping to feel satisfied. I noticed just how many clothes I have. I have a TON! I thought "How am I supposed to justify my need for new clothes." It came as a disappointment. however I decided it was time to make new outfits!
I think often times we put together an outfit we love and wear it once a week. Now is the time to find new ways to wear it, thus making old, NEW!

   Examples:

I choose to show you examples with denim shirts because if you don't already have one, you need to invest in one!  They are a hot look right now!
Find a shirt in your closet and try mixing it with things.  her are some starter points.

  • start with a patterned piece. a floral cardigan or a striped shirt.
  • add a complimenting color to the piece you choose. this can be done with a pair of shoes, a cardigan, a fun top, or pants.
  • once you have a patterned piece, a complementary color I then look for a basic color. (most outfits have at least 3 different color pieces.
  • I then use accessories to finish the outfit and I choose a color in the shirt I want to bring out or a 2nd complementary color to the outfit, if you do this make sure the necklace and the shoes match your shoes. it adds balance through out the outfit.
  • I always add a belt, I believe it makes the outfit look complete but it also helps with the body shape.
  • Last tip. You're belt should match your purse.
for example:
I choose a floral top.
My complimenting color I choose was the blue blazer.
My basic color was white
I decided I wanted to see more of the red that is in the blouse so I add red accessories.
Then I choose a brown belt because I have brown purses.

Now lets talk about the popular trend of patterns layered with patterns.  You will for the most part follow the same directions as above.
  • Pick a simple pattern (that allows you the freedom to choose a pattern that is more wild. or if you are like me I things simple. so I add simple patterns with simple patterns.)
  • then you choose a pattern that compliments the first pattern. this can be by a similar color or if you have dots on your shirt go with stripes on the cardigan (its opposite)
  • then add your basic color
  • find a fun color for accessories to make a splash with your cute outfit!
When starting with patterns first start with two simple patterns.
   For example:
I choose 2 simple patterns but patterns with opposites.
  • First I choose a very uniform patterned
  • I added a random pattern of dots.
  • my basic color is in the cardigan which means my complimentary color can be my pants
  • for fun I added the yellow accessories.
  • I would most likely again go with a brown belt because of the color of my purses but it also flows better with my basic color I already choose.

Good luck going through your closets making the old, NEW!

Dressing our body shape.

Good evening!

Today my tip is about dressing your body type.  How we can use fashion cuts and styles to make our body shape look its best.  Below I have added a picture of the body shapes.

Imagine what each of these shapes have a line through them at the waist line.  Imagine what they would look like if they were snitched at the waist.  However as you can see the Pear and Inverted triangle are not fixed by the belt being at the waistline because they have to much weight on the shoulders (Inverted Triangle) or the hips (Pear)

For the pear:
Your goal is to make the weight even through out your body. Pear shaped people have more of their weight around their hips and that is why you want to “distribute” the weight.   For example: if you were wearing jeans and wanted a simple top, go for a boat neck top.  This makes the shoulders appear wider and balances out your hips.  If you like prints, you want them to be from your waist up.

For the Inverted Triangle:
Typically you have broader shoulders.  So to create the hourglass look you would want to add bulk around your hips.  Have fun with this. You could wear a cute ruffle skirt. If you are wearing Jeans you could wear a shirt that has a print or sequins at the bottom of the shirt.

For the Apples: Empire waist look good on your body type.
As long as you create a waistline you can pull of a lot of great outfits.

We are seeing a lot of people wear clothes that hide their body shape but here is the thing, shape is better then no shape.  So show off some of your sexy curves! Be proud of them!

Trick #1 If you are worried about your weight this is a very very simple trick…. BELTS!!! Lets face it; all of us have muffin tops (where just a little bit of skin seems to hang over our jean line. The trick is a belt! it takes of just a little bit of weight because It creates the illusion that the bulk there is the belt.  Now of course this only helps to some degree but the little it does do Is worth it. It also helps an outfit look put together.

Trick #2 wear a fitted undershirt and tuck it in! this will help eliminate some of the lines we have making them less obvious with whatever blouse we are wearing.

I am glad I tried it!

Well, I did it.  It took my friends help to get me out the door.  I wasn’t sure that this would ever be a good look for me, however as the day went on the more and more I grew to like it.   I have a major widows peak, so wearing my hair like this almost made me feel like I have a receding hairline. Ha ha.
Taking “fashion risk” no matter how big or small it is can help you find fun things that you love, that compliment you. I hope some of you were able to try out a fun new look.
Once you are willing to try new things is when you are ready for the fashion tips.  My reasoning behind that is sometimes we have so many objections that when a good idea for our body type comes, we turn it down.
I ended up being happy about my new hairstyle, though I didn’t want to admit it because of all my strong anti feelings towards this look on me. No one likes to   Ha ha. Over the years I have taken a “fashion Risk” with hairstyles, mixing prep and punk, shoes, crazy tops and more.  Now that I have, I can say I know a good amount of the yes’ and no’s of fashion.

be wrong.
This Friday I will be making a post about a quick fix for body types. Not diets, heck no! I love my food, but by having the ideal body shape by using fashion trick illusions.
